FAQ

Do I own the code?

Yes. Generated code is pushed to a GitHub repository on your own account or organization. You can clone it, change it, and host it anywhere. There is no lock-in.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You describe your product in plain language, answer questions and approve each step. If you do code, you can clone your repository, work on it locally, or connect your coding agent to your PRD.

What technology does Codalio build with?

The frontend is a React app. For the backend, choose Ruby on Rails (recommended), Laravel or NestJS when you start the build. See Build.

Is the prototype the same as the final app?

The prototype is a clickable interface for testing screens and flows. In the Build stage, Codalio brings the approved prototype into your production app and connects it to a real backend and database.

How long does it take?

The PRD takes as long as your conversation, usually minutes. A prototype can take up to 10 minutes. A full build takes longer, depending on the size of your product, and you can watch every stage as it runs.

What uses credits?

AI work: writing and editing your PRD, generating and changing prototypes, analyzing repositories and generating code. Your first guided setup is free. See Plans & credits.

Do unused credits roll over?

Monthly and bonus credits reset each billing cycle. Credits you buy as top-ups never expire.

What happens if I run out of credits mid-build?

The run pauses. Nothing is lost. Add credits and click Resume to continue from where it stopped.

Can I change my PRD after building?

Yes. Ask for changes in chat at any time. Codalio drafts the PRD changes a new request needs, and can bring your prototype and code back in line with the latest PRD.

Can I go back to an earlier version of my PRD?

Yes, on the Plus and Premium plans. Save versions as you go and switch between them in Version history.

Can my team work with me?

Yes. Invite people to your organization from App Settings → Access. Projects, credits and GitHub connections are shared across the organization.

What happens to my live app if I cancel?

A cancelled Cloud Deployment stays live until the end of its billing period. After that, it enters a grace period and is then taken down. Your code remains in your GitHub repository.

Can I bring an existing app into Codalio?

Yes. Import it from GitHub and Codalio writes a PRD from the code.
