Connect GitHub
Codalio stores your generated code, and publishes your prototype website, in your own GitHub repositories. To do that it needs two things:
- Your GitHub account, connected, so Codalio can act as you.
- The Codalio GitHub App (Codalio-Bot), installed on your personal account or organization, so Codalio can create and manage repositories there.
Connect your account
You can start from any of these:
- the GitHub button on a project's Project Lifecycle bar,
- GitHub in the account menu,
- Connect GitHub on the Build stage card.
Click Connect GitHub, sign in to GitHub if asked, and approve access. You're brought back to Codalio and see GitHub connected.
Install the Codalio GitHub App
After connecting, install the app where your repositories should live:
- Click Install Codalio on your account or organization (or Add Organizations).
- GitHub opens. Choose your personal account or an organization.
- Choose which repositories Codalio can access, then confirm.
You're brought back and see Codalio app installed. Repeat for each organization you want to use.
To install the app on a GitHub organization, you need permission to install apps there. If you don't have it, ask an organization owner to approve the request on GitHub.
Manage your connection
Go to App Settings → GitHub. Here you can:
- see your Connected GitHub account,
- see every account and organization where Codalio-Bot is installed, and Install or link more,
- see Linked projects and the repository each one uses,
- Disconnect repository from a project,
- Refresh GitHub login if publishing fails because your GitHub session expired,
- Disconnect GitHub entirely.
Clone your repository
To work on your code locally, open the project's GitHub settings, choose a Clone protocol, and click Copy clone command. Paste the command into your terminal.
Common problems
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Reconnect GitHub | Your GitHub authorization expired or was revoked. Click it and approve again. |
| Install Codalio app | The app isn't installed on the account that owns this repository. Install it there. |
| This repository needs the Codalio GitHub App installed before it can be analyzed. | Click Install Codalio bot and install it on the repository's owner. |
| The app is linked to a different organization | Go to github.com/settings/installations, open Codalio, uninstall it, then connect again from Codalio. |
| Your GitHub setup session could not be found. | Start the connection again from Codalio, not from a saved GitHub link. |
| GitHub was temporarily unavailable or rejected the request. | Wait a moment and try again. |
