Start a project
Every Codalio project starts with your idea. There are three ways in.
| Start with | Best when | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Describe it | You have an idea, notes or documents. | Home page, Describe it tab |
| Quick UI | You want to see screens as fast as possible. | Quick UI button next to the message box |
| Import from GitHub | You already have code and want a PRD written from it. | Home page, Import from GitHub tab |
Describe your idea
On the home page, under What's on your mind?, write a few sentences about your product and press Send. Codalio creates a new project and opens it.
A good first message covers:
- Who it's for, for example "independent fitness coaches".
- The problem it solves, for example "they track clients in spreadsheets and lose track of progress".
- The must-have features, for example "client profiles, workout plans, progress charts, payments".
Don't worry about getting it perfect. Codalio asks follow-up questions to fill the gaps.
You don't need third-party prompt tools or long, structured prompts. Describe your idea in plain English and answer in short sentences. Codalio does the rest.
Attach files
Click the paperclip (Attach files) to add supporting material such as pitch decks, wireframes, briefs or screenshots. The AI reads them alongside your message.
| File type | Formats | Max size |
|---|---|---|
| Documents | PDF, TXT, MD, CSV, JSON | 20 MB each |
| Images | PNG, JPG, WebP | 10 MB each |
You can attach up to 20 documents to a project. Once a file has been built into your PRD, you can remove it from the attachments panel so it isn't read again. This keeps your results focused and saves credits.
Quick UI
Quick UI generates a full user interface from your description in one go, then takes you straight to the preview. It's great for rapid prototyping when you want to see something before working through the full PRD interview.
Quick UI uses credits. You can still write and refine your PRD afterwards.
Import from GitHub
If you already have an app, you can import its repository. Codalio analyzes the code and writes a PRD from it. See Import from GitHub.
Your projects
Your projects appear under Your Projects on the home page, and under Recent projects in the sidebar. Click Go to Project to open one.
The number of projects you can have active depends on your plan. If you reach the limit, Codalio shows Product limit reached and offers to upgrade. See Plans & credits.
